John August “Johnny” Antonelli

Johnny Antonelli pitched in the big leagues for twelve years, starring for the New York Giants from 1954 to 1959. Signed by the Boston Braves as an 18 year old in 1948, Antonelli missed two years while serving in the Korean War. He returned to the Braves in 1953 and went 12-12. Traded to the Giants in 1954, he went 21-7, led the National League with a 2.30 ERA, and was 1-0 with a save in 2 appearances as the Giants won the World Series. Antonelli was an NL All-Star for four straight years. On retiring, he returned to his hometown of Rochester, NY, where he became a successful businessman.
