Robert Thomas Aspromonte
B: Jun 19, 1938, Brooklyn, NY
Younger brother of Ken Aspromonte, Bob played for the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Colt .45’s/Astros, Braves and Mets. In 1971, he was the last Dodger who had played in Brooklyn and the last Colt .45 player to retire. In 1962, he set an NL record for consecutive errorless games at third base. In 1963, a little leaguer blinded by lightning came to Houston for medical treatment. Aspromonte promised to hit a home run for him and did. Twice more the child visited Houston for treatment, and both times Aspromonte hit grand slams. Ironically, Aspromonte himself now suffers from vision loss.
