Frank Peter Joseph Crosetti
B: Oct 4, 1910, San Francisco, CA — D: Feb 11, 2002, Stockton, CA
The Crow was the Yankees shortstop for 17 seasons before becoming their third-base coach for another 20 years. In 1938, Crosetti topped the American League with 27 stolen bases and set a record with 757 plate appearances in a 154-game season. Next year, he led the American League shortstops in putouts and double plays. Frankie was old school: stealing the opposing team’s signs, hiding the baseball to tag out a base runner and purposely getting hit by pitches. Crosetti played on nine American League pennant-winning teams and in seven World Series. His Yankee teammates included Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio.
