Vincent Paul DiMaggio
B: Sep 6, 1912, Martinez, CA — D: Oct 3, 1986, North Hollywood, CA
The older brother of Joe and Dom, Vince DiMaggio played for five NL teams. Like his brothers, he was a fine defensive outfielder and could hit for power, but he also led the NL six times in striking out. A two-time All-Star, in the 1944 game he hit a home run, triple and single in three at-bats. The same year he belted four grand slams for the Phillies, then a record. He left the major leagues in 1946 to play and manage in the Pacific Coast League, after which he turned his attention to managing the popular family restaurant, DiMaggio’s, in San Francisco.
