Raymond Earl Fosse
B: Apr 4, 1947, Marion, IL
In 1967, Ray was the Indians’ first ever draft pick. His career was changed after a collision at home plate with Pete Rose in the 1970 All-Star Game. Rose scored the winning run, but separated Fosse’s shoulder, limiting his throwing. In 1974, Ray suffered a crushed disk in his neck breaking up a clubhouse fight while with the Oakland Athletics. In his 12 seasons, Ray also played for the Mariners and Brewers. Fosse caught Dennis Eckersley’s no-hitter, played for two World Series Champions and garnered two Gold Glove Awards. He is now a broadcaster for the Athletics.
