John Joseph Montefusco Jr.
B: 5/25/75 in Long Branch, N.J.
Montefusco pitched for the Giants, Braves, Padres and Yankees. Named the National League Rookie of the Year in 1975, John was an All-Star in 1976. In that season, Montefusco tossed a no-hitter for the Giants, shutting down a powerful Braves lineup. He is one of very few pitchers or players at any position to hit a home run in his first big league at bat. Sciatic pain caused Montefusco to retire early, cutting short what was a truly promising career. John has stayed active in the game as a pitching coach in independent league baseball.
