Edward Charles Pellagrini

B: Mar 13, 1918, Boston, MA

An infielder for the Red Sox, Browns, Phillies, Reds and Pirates after he completed three years of military service in World War II, Eddie hit a home run in his first major league at bat in 1946. Traded to the Browns in 1947, he became a reserve by 1949. A native Bostonian, Eddie became the baseball coach at Boston College in 1958 and remained in that role for thirty years. He guided the team to three appearances in the College World Series, in 1960, 1961 and 1967, as well as NCAA tournament appearances in 1962 and 1966. In 1997, BC’s baseball field was formally rededicated as Eddie Pellagrini Diamond.
