Rico played his entire career for the Boston Red Sox “1963-1976”. In 1967, the Impossible Dream year for the Sox, Petrocelli made the AL All-Star team. In 1968 and 1969 Petrocelli led the league shortstops in fielding percentage while setting a record for home runs by a shortstop with 4. In 1971, Petrocelli moved to third base, but was still the league leader in fielding percentage. In 1992 Petrocelli managed the Pawtucket Red Sox minor league baseball team to the International League playoffs. Rico was inducted to the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame in 1997.
