Nicknamed “The Scooter,” Rizzuto was a Hall of Fame shortstop for the Yankees for his entire career “1941-1956”. Named the AL MVP in 1950, Scooters career double plays ranked second in major league history, as did his fielding percentage for AL shortstops when he retired. Despite losing two years in the Navy during World War II, Rizzuto played in nine World Series, winning seven. He holds most of the World Series records for a shortstop. Upon retiring, Rizzuto embarked on a 40-year career as a radio and television announcer for the Yankees, becoming known for his personal style, and especially for saying “Holy Cow!” after an exciting play.
