John Anthony Romano, Jr.

In his ten-year career with the White Sox, Indians and Cardinals, Sweet Honey Romano was primarily a catcher but also played first base and left field. His best season was 1961, when he batted .299 and played in a career-high 142 games. Romano was named to the AL All-Star team that season, as well as the one following. In his first season, Romano was dubbed Rookie Catcher of the Year by Topps. Johnny could hit for power and average, but was best known for his defense and ability to help young pitchers develop into successful major leaguers.
