Ronald Edward Santo
B: Feb 25, 1940, Seattle, WA
Ron played third base for the Cubs for 13 seasons, then one year with the White Sox. A nine-time “NL” All-Star, he batted .300 and hit 30 home runs four times, and is the only third baseman to post eight consecutive seasons with 90 RBIs. Beside his batting prowess, Santo also won five consecutive Gold Glove Awards “1964-1968”, and set NL records “since broken” for career assists, total chances and double plays at third base. Santo suffers from diabetes, a condition that has necessitated the amputation of his lower legs. Now a member of the Cubs broadcasting team, the Cubs have retired his number.
