John Andrew Smoltz
B: May 15, 1967 Warren, MI
For more than two decades, Smoltzie pitched for the Braves, earning eight All-Star selections and the Cy Young Award in 1996. After more than a decade as a starting pitcher, John was converted to a reliever in 2001 and became only the second pitcher in history to have had both a 20-win and a 50-save season. He is the only pitcher in major league history to exceed both 200 wins and 150 saves and is only the 16th pitcher to record more than 3,000 strikeouts. Currently a starter for the Boston Red Sox, there is little doubt that Smoltz will be a first-ballot selection for the Baseball Hall of Fame.
