Fury Gene Tenace
B: Oct 10, 1946, Russellton PA
A catcher and first baseman, Tenace was a key to Oakland A’s dynasty that won 3 consecutive World Series (1972-1974). He was World Series MVP in 1972. Gene later played for the Padres, Cardinals and Pirates. Despite a low career batting average, Tenace hit for power and drew a lot of walks. After coaching for the Astros, Gene became batting instructor for the Blue Jays, who won World Series rings in 1992 and 1993, making him a winner in all six Series in which he participated. After a coaching stint with the Cardinals, Tenace was re-hired as the Blue Jays’ hitting coach in 2008.
